Misdemeanor Bonds in Potter County
Misdemeanor bonds are the most common type we write in Amarillo. Here is how they work and what to expect.
Classes of Misdemeanors in Texas
Texas misdemeanors come in three classes. The class determines how serious the charge is and roughly how much bail will be set:
Class C Misdemeanor — The least serious. Things like minor traffic violations and small fines. Many Class C offenses do not result in jail time at all, but some do carry a warrant. Bail is typically very low, often $500 or less.
Class B Misdemeanor — More serious charges like a first-offense DWI, possession of a small amount of marijuana, or petty theft. Bail typically ranges from $500 to $2,000 in Potter County.
Class A Misdemeanor — The most serious misdemeanor level. Charges include second-offense DWI, assault causing bodily injury, and theft of higher dollar amounts. Bail typically ranges from $1,500 to $5,000.
Misdemeanor Bonds Are Processed Faster
Misdemeanor bonds have less paperwork than felony bonds and move through the Potter County Detention Center faster. In many cases, a misdemeanor defendant can be released within 1 to 2 hours of the bond being posted - sometimes the same night as the arrest.
